  1. The New Normal - Shifting Extreme Temperatures

    One of the clearest signs that global warming is accelerating has been the extreme temperatures we see during summer. Since the 1950’s these temperatures have not only gotten more extreme (hotter), but they are also happening more often.

    Using animated data from NASA climate studies, I put together this GIF so you can see how extreme temperatures are getting more frequent:

    As the curve shifts to the right, you can see that it stays about the same height, but the number of days that are extremely hot (farther to the right) takes over.

    And there’s no sign of this changing any time soon.

    Amazing how the curve stays mostly idle for years before making a b-line to the right. You can really see the acceleration there.
