In a world dominated by magical thinking, superstition and misinformation, give yourself the benefit of doubt. This is one skeptic's view of the Universe.

"Tell people there’s an invisible man in the sky who created the universe, and the vast majority believe you. Tell them the paint is wet, and they have to touch it to be sure."

-George Carlin

“If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed”.

-Albert Einstein

“Skeptical scrutiny is the means, in both science and religion, by which deep thoughts can be winnowed from deep nonsense.”

-Carl Sagan

The person who is certain, and who claims divine warrant for his certainty, belongs now to the infancy of our species. It may be a long farewell, but it has begun and, like all farewells, should not be protracted.

Abortion is not an option

Embryos and non-viable fetuses aren’t persons nor do they possess the neurocomplexity to become persons. Abortion is currently a legal option and even if that changes, it will be an option in the mind of any woman who has an unwanted pregnancy. So all you can realistically strive for is the reduction of unwanted pregnancies; that will, in turn, reduce the frequency of abortions. How do you do that? Get behind the problem. Sex education, marriage counseling, counseling for women who are already mothers, more jobs which will get women further from the poverty line, a focus on abuse in relationships and so on. Putting up a quote that has obviously ignored what is meant by person and adding that “abortion is not an option” is useless. As it stands, you’re like 99.9% of prolifers. There’s nothing unique about your approach or your views. However, if you were to choose to get behind the problem by targeting the quality-of-life issues that prompt decisions to get abortions, you’d literally revolutionize what it means to be prolife. Pro-choice, as a label, fits me because I maintain that abortion should be a legal, safe, medical option for women struggling with such decisions. However, I’m not blind to the inherent worth of getting behind the issue and addressing underlying problems. That’s a fresh approach and more importantly, it’s a better way of thinking about this issue.

7 Reasons Why the Pro-Life Movement is Winning on Abortion…

Learn more.

Together, we can change the world.

Dude, this isn’t even a credible source. This is no different from a creationist citing pro-creationist websites. It’s propaganda. And of course we have less clinics; you idiots firebombed some of them! Give us a credible source to work with or just admit to your propagandist garbage.

And the ones the extremists haven’t firebombed, their counterparts in congress have staged a coup to defund. With fewer legit clinics around there is a slim chance we’d ever get accurate or complete stats on how many are taking place. It just gets pushed to the back allies. If abortion rates are dropping though, I’d put my money on increasing access to contraception and sex education before I’d bank on the twisted and myopic prolife movement.

If a 16 year old would want to adopt a child no one would give it to her because she isn’t 21 yet or not an adult or maybe too irresponsible.

So if a 16 year old is so irresponsible and not an adult yet so she wouldn’t even be allowed to adopt a child, then why would the government force her to get that child even though she might not want it?

Let’s talk about how logical the bill against abortion is now

Over 300,000 children are murdered inside Planned Parenthood clinics every year. http://ift.tt/ITL4iD

BULL FUCKING SHIT.
My mother was three months pregnant with me when she waltzed into Planned Parenthood. But she didn’t get an abortion. Not because she had a ‘sudden change of heart’ nor because someone ‘lead her Jesus’ but because she went there to make sure I was and would be born healthy.
My parents were two poor young adults in their late teens and early twenties when I was conceived. They lived in a tiny apartment and had no insurance, but they wanted me. My mom drove herself to Planned Parenthood from the third month of pregnancy to the fifth (until she finally got medical insurance.) There she got the ultrasound screenings, found out I was a girl, got the prenatal vitamins and were referred to see the physician I’ve been going to from my birth to now.
Thanks to Planned Parenthood, I was born healthy at six pounds, seven ounces. I had no malformations, no preventable disorders and no preventable health issues. The only thing that occurred was I was in ‘fetal distress’ and was born a week before the due date.
I ‘made it out alive’ and thanks to Planned Parenthood I ‘made it out’ healthy.
Take this bullshit elsewhere.
TL;DR?: Read the bold.

Potential Senate candidate David Barton explains how abortion caused climate change

“We opened a door that lost God’s protection over our environment and that’s our choice.”

Asshole of the Day, October 28, 2013: Ted Cruz
by TeaPartyCat (Follow @TeaPartyCat)
The Texas GOP assholes are back out in force today, and why wouldn’t they be— a federal judge blocked part of their abortion law, the one they tried to ram through in a special session in June which made Wendy Davis a national figure. You remember that one. They were such assholes that it led to SIX Assholes of the Day.
Gov. Rick Perry, who won twice during the passing of this law—for claiming it was about the health of the mother, even though there is no exception to save the life of the mother AND for saying Wendy Davis should support the law because she was a single mother —, spoke out first:

Today’s decision will not stop our ongoing efforts to protect life and ensure the women of our state aren’t exposed to any more of the abortion-mill horror stories that have made headlines recently. We will continue fighting to implement the laws passed by the duly-elected officials of our state, laws that reflect the will and values of Texans.

Did you catch how he says “laws that reflect the will and values of Texans”. Sorry, Gov. Perry, the Constitution supersedes the will and values of Texans, and you know that. You mention it all the time when the values of Americans to want gun control is trumped by the Constitution, or did you only read up to the Second Amendment?
But today’s top spot goes to Sen. Ted Cruz, who is praised throughout the Tea Party for so eloquently explaining the conservative position where so many others often fail:

Texas passed commonsense legislation to protect the health of women and their unborn children. This law is constitutional and consistent with U.S. Supreme Court precedent protecting the life and health of the mother and child. I hope the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals will uphold Texas’ reasonable law.

There are 3 sentences in this statement, and in two of them he mentions protecting the health and life of the mother. It sounds nice, but it’s not true. If the Texas GOP cared about the health and life of the mother, there would be an exception to the abortion ban to save the life of the mother, but there isn’t. So time for you assholes to stop pretending you care about women. You don’t. It’d be nice if just once you lying assholes would admit that you don’t care about the mother at all.
It is Ted Cruz’s 6th time as Asshole of the Day. Previous wins were for
claiming victory in the government shutdown because he built a fundraising list
protesting the consequences of the shutdown HE orchestrated
claiming the shutdown he orchestrated will leave America vulnerable to a terrorist attack
comparing Obamacare to the Nazis gassing 6 million Jews
creating condescending memes to address the President like some i-can-haz teenager
