Chronicling the follies of religion and superstition, the virtues of skepticism, and the wonders of the real (natural) universe as revealed by science. Plus other interesting and educational stuff.
"Tell people there’s an invisible man in the sky who created the universe, and the vast majority believe you. Tell them the paint is wet, and they have to touch it to be sure."
“If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed”.
“Skeptical scrutiny is the means, in both science and religion, by which deep thoughts can be winnowed from deep nonsense.”
“Confusing messages being conveyed by the entertainment industry, media, proponents of
“medical” marijuanaalcohol, and politicaladvertising campaigns to legalize all marijuanapromote alcohol use perpetuate the false notion that marijuanaalcohol use is harmless and aim to establish commercial access to the drug. This significantly diminishes efforts to keep our young people drug free and hampers the struggle of those recovering from addiction.
Marijuana and other illicit drugsAlcohol, cigarettes and prescription drugs are addictive and unsafe especially for use by young people. The science, though still evolvingin terms of long-term consequences, is clear: marijuanaAlcohol use is harmful. Independent from the so called ‘gateway effect’social use— marijuanaalcohol on its own is associated with addiction, respiratory and mental illness, poor motor performance, and cognitive impairment, among other negative effects including but not limited to direct poisoning, heart disease, liver disease, cancer, coma, urinary track dysfunction and DEATH. .”

I made some edits (strike through and bold). Of course, I find this official government policy ironic because of the well know studies that find that completely legal Alcohol is the Most Harmful Drug. And just so happens to be the drug of choice of most politicians, including the president himself! I automatically felt like I was reading a paragraph about alcohol use when I read this. I, for one, am very happy to see more and more TV shows and movies that involve stoner characters. The stigma associated with pot is FAR more harmful than the drug itself.
